healthAbility, as the name suggests, plays a unique and valuable role in the health system. We work to address the root causes of vulnerability, prevent disease and promote lifelong health outcomes, empowering people in our community to live their best life.

Our role is also supporting people to self-manage long-term health conditions, such as diabetes and mental health challenges, with multidisciplinary teams delivering community-based programs in a comfortable setting. We also support people, including older people and people with disability, to stay living at home longer and to live well in their community. 

Our broad range of primary health services, care management and in home and community support services can be tailored to an individual’s needs and with major hubs in Box Hill and Eltham, these services can be delivered locally, in the Eastern and North Eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Job Description

The opportunity:
We are looking for a Cook to join our Connect Well Groups team in a part time capacity.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to;

  • To follow the food safety plan, maintain our Class 1 registration, be involved in food audits, and record appropriately.
  • To plan and cook nutritious meals, including participants in menu choices
  • To purchase supplies (mostly online ordering) and check items against invoices
  • To be involved in daily clean up and regular maintenance involving the kitchen, with assistance of a volunteer.
  • To keep within the SSG budget
  • Be involved in theme days, or cooking demonstrations as required

Desired Skills and Experience

Our ideal candidate:

  • Cook Employed Alone (no trade qualifications)
  • Food safety handling certificate
  • Food safety supervisor certificate (or willingness to complete
  • Ability to be creative, flexible and innovative in the delivery of a quality social support group program
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working well within a team setting
  • First Aid Certificate or agreement to complete
  • The ability to communicate with participants with a range of diverse needs.  This may include people with dementia, isolated older people, people with disabilities
